Title: Semantic Figurative Metaphors in Information Visualization
Summary: The personal approach of Pedro Miguel Cruz, designer and explorer, to information visualization. Several case studies are discussed, emphasizing how they use visual semantic metaphors to enhance communication and connect with the audience. The information visualized refers to diverse topics such as consumption in supermarkets, road traffic, the decline of overseas empires and relations between political and corporate powers in Portugal.

Join us for a special presentation on January 6, 12:00-1:00 in the Monadnock Room. Featuring presentations by John Travia, Director of Financial Services, Stacey Donnelly, Sr. Director of Strategic Operations and Emme Handy, Director of Financial Planning.

  • Did you ever wonder how research institutions and universities make financial decisions? We will cover finances at the institutional level to allow you to gain that perspective.
  • How does F&A or indirect work?  You will leave with a general understanding of facilities and administration (F&A) costs and why it is critical to the research enterprise.
  • What are the basics of a project budget and what are the items people often forget? We will go over a project level budget and how to estimate costs.
